Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2016 Collection
Ah, it’s Friday and I couldn’t wait to finish my workout, grab a glass of whisky and start typing the story of an Edwardian princess’s adventure into the enchanted forest. As she walks down the catwalk in her opulent shades of lavender dresses, she’s greeted by howling wolves!
If you have seen the show, you’ll know precisely what I mean. But if you haven’t, prepare to be amazed by the incredibly creative mind of Elie Saab - Ambassador of feminine couture. Elie Saab obviously has an appreciation and respect for femininity and elegance and one can see it in the softness and gentleness of his designs. It should be an absolute honor for every woman to wear Elie!
Elie Saab’s Spring 2016 Couture collection speaks of luxury in a hip manner. Almost every single dress is ornated with crystals and pearls. And that silky Chiffon intertwined with French lace plus (my all time favorite) Guipure is a true work of art. Mind you, the collection has a relaxed yet flattering and sensual look.
What is worth mentioning is Elie Saab’s ability to mingle the Edwardian silhouette of high neck dresses with Nehru collar and Sari styles sashes that wrap around the shoulder.
There were the Chiffon crystal beaded shorts, pants; and dresses with cascading bead ropes moving gently in synchronized matter, like the leaves of a willow tree blown by the soft breeze.
Personal Picks? Cargo pants and belt bags
My favorites were the silky cargo pants with wrap around skirts and knee high metallic boots, and belt bags. It’s like Couture gone street-style! As a huge fan of cargo pants, I’m hoping they make a trendy come back in mainstream fashion this year. I had a difficult time getting rid of my old cargos from like 10 years ago and they had a special place in my closet for many many seasons ;)
Ok and those trendy belt bags are serious fashion accessories. Where were they back in the day when we struggled to find a safe place for our bags while on dance floors; or when our babies were small and we needed that extra pouch for the phone, keys and wallets?? The belt bags are a wonderful evolution of the old fanny bags. Even Tier One designers like Gucci, Chloè and Balenciaga started featuring them in their Prt-à-Porter collections in 2015. If you are looking for more affordable yet classic belt bag, see the Annabella Tote by Farah Asmar currently available at Pursed Boutique. It’s quite versatile as you can switch from a belt bag to as a small handbag or crossbody bag.
2016 should be an exciting year in fashion. It's time to move away from the old simple and plain towards versatility, and functionality. Stay tuned for the next blog featuring the Queen of Sexy no other than Donatella Versace (love her)!
